Sneak Peek

A Peek Into What I’ve Been Creating and Loving This Past Week

WELCOME to my weekly post where I share about what I’m creating right now and what I’m loving, and give you a peek into what we’ve been up to this past week.

*** What I’m creating …..

Ah. It really has been several weeks since my last Creating and Loving post, hasn’t it. :/ I’m sorry. I seem to be having a tough go of it lately. And it’s been difficult keeping my act together. Nevertheless, I DO have some anecdotes from the last four weeks of my life to show you what I’ve been creating and loving. 🙂 Read on!

Insulated Lunch Bag!
There is a LOT of room in this Lunch Bag!

I made an Insulated Lunch Bag for an Etsy customer. And, although I wasn’t sure I was in love with the fabric choices, in the end I thought it came together great! I think the soft green and yellow color combination make for a fresh look. These Lunch Bags are water/spill-resistant, wipeable and super roomy! You also can just toss in the washer when it becomes really dirty. These are available in my Etsy shop.

My sewing business has been kinda slow the past month or so, but I did get several orders over the last two weeks, both in my StoLat A Wedding Shop and in Draw That Pig. Today, I took a few hours to cut out a bunch of items that I can work on sewing throughout the week — a Bridal Apron, Bridal Bag and Babushka, and a Pajama Eater.

*** What I’m loving …..

Two of my favorite guys whom I love dearly are fighting disease right now. It sucks. It’s scary. And it is just a drag, to put it lightly. My wonderful father is suffering from ALS (a.k.a Lou Gehrig’s Disease), and my sweet boyfriend has been recently diagnosed with bladder cancer.

Some days I own their sicknesses. As if I am fighting the battle myself. And I get angry.

Some days I am so devastated by their diagnoses, that the sadness overwhelms me.

And some days I am so scared of what is inevitable, and of what might happen, that fear paralyzes me.

Like I said … it sucks.

But, what I am loving is that my father is recovering very well from surgery he underwent last week.  He is home now, and he looks and sounds amazing to me! He is without a doubt the strongest, most positive, most amazing man I know. I always get perked up after a visit with him. <3

My boyfriend Brian started his chemo treatments earlier this week. And I am loving that he made it through one of his more intense treatments with flying colors! No ill side effects, and great spirits! That was such a relief to me (and I’m sure to him as well).

I’m also loving on my kids. I find myself consciously trying to soak up my time with them, probably more than ever before. (Devastating diagnoses and unexpected deaths have a way of rearranging your perspective for you.)  I am certainly not perfect in my efforts, but I try to make concerted efforts to be present with them, not just going through the motions of surviving our days.

Rhianna is making her space her own by painting a favorite quote on her bedroom wall.

Rhianna is my creative child. She loves anything DIY, and she has a flair for expressing herself.

James — working with power tools at Cub Scouts.

Sitting in the driver’s seat!

Trying on the super heavy fireman’s coat.

Looking a little nervous behind the oxygen mask.

James is doing fun things with the Boy Scouts, and I am glad that I can be a part of these experiences with him. A few weeks ago, the pack was learning about and practicing with various tools. James was loving the power drill! And earlier this week we visited a local firehouse where the boys got to climb up onto the trucks and try on the equipment.

So, what have you been up to? I’d love to sneak a peek into your life, too! Leave me a note in the comments. <3
