My First Blog Post {and 10 things about me}

Hi! and welcome to my blog Draw That Pig. I’m happy that you are here!

I have been wanting to start a blog for several years. And then I never did. Because … well … the start-up scared me (it still kinda does). And I didn’t really have time (you have to make time, silly). And, of course, what should I write about? Would anyone read it? (Really, would anyone WANT to read it?)

And, then, recently my 24-year old got a tattoo. It says sentire metus, which means feel the fear in Latin. I know these things, having been a Latin teacher for years. {smile} She is one brave, strong girl, that Lauren. And I was also reminded of my dad. He has often told both Lauren and me — “Feel the fear, and do it anyway.” In fact, I thought he was the author of that quote. Not so much (thank you, Susan Jeffers). So I figured, what better time than NOW? So, here I am, feeling the fear and starting my blog.

My plan here is to share some of my imperfect, happy, funny life with you. In the midst of life’s chaos, I always try to look at myself with a sense of humor, and to feel gratitude. Sometimes it’s easy; sometimes not so much. But when I can do that, it always makes things better. My hope here is to make you smile, too, by offering snippets of encouragement, my life experiences, and bits of my sewing adventures.

To help up get better acquainted, here are 10 things about me:

  1. I myself don’t have any tattoos. But if I did have one, it would say vires, the Latin word for strength.
  2. My favorite family vacation destination is Ocean City, New Jersey.
  3. My heritage is Polish, German and Irish. But I totally ROCK my Polish side!
  4. I make a terrific soup using leftover veggies affectionately coined “compost soup.”
  5. I deliver newspapers on Sunday mornings.
  6. I adore gardening, and I get genuinely excited about compost.
  7. I don’t paint my fingernails — just impossible for me to maintain.
  8. I love the smells of freshly cut grass and garden dirt.
  9. I completely dislike toads.
  10. I have always had a soft spot for the underdog.

So, that’s a little bit about me. I would love to hear about you. <3
