Pajama Eaters, Sewing Business

How my family has inspired my sewing

My family has always been the  inspiration behind my sewing creations. (You can read more about how it all started here.) From Halloween costumes, outfits, and toys for the little ones– to more practical creations like wall organizers and duffel bags for the grown-ups, members of my family have long been “testers” in the sewing lab of Draw That Pig.

It is so much fun to try out new ideas and new patterns! It is also practical in the sense that I can figure out what works and what doesn’t work. Additionally, I can tweak an idea or pattern if need be — or ditch it altogether. 😉 This is an important part of product testing.

Well, a few years ago, I came across a pattern for Pajama Eaters on the internet, and I thought these cutie monsters seemed like the perfect soft, cuddly friend to cozy up with at bedtime, or to snuggle in the car on a long trip. Learning all about them made ME smile, and I was looking for an idea that would make kids smile, too. So I decided to purchase the pattern, whip up a few of these monsters for my kiddos, and see how they might fit this bill.

You can’t give Pajama Eaters just one squeeze — they are addictive!

This was nearly four years ago, and my kids still have their PJ Eaters. Needless to say, they are very well-loved and have endured many squeezes over the years.

I decided that this pattern was a keeper. Next, I made a few Pajama Eaters for friends — mostly as birthday gifts. They were always a big hit! And word-of-mouth brought more business my way for these adorable monsters. I then took the leap and listed some in my Etsy shop, and I began to bring them along to my craft shows. They are THE top seller in Draw That Pig on Etsy, and I typically SELL OUT at local craft shows! I found a keeper, folks!

And every now and again, I get a photo like this one from a happy customer:

That face, though!

And there is no doubt that I found a great idea that works for my brand and for my shop. <3
